Gabriel's 1st birthday Party - Part 1 (in Brasil!!!)

Invitation for my son's first birthday party.  We had an intimate (well, as intimate as it can be with a Brazilian family with Italian roots...) brunch at my parents' house in Brasil.  Later, we would have another celebration, this time at our home in the US.

Cheese & Wine Sampling Birthday Party

To warm up a chilly December night... and wish this birthday gal a happy one :-)
We had paper labels that wrap around the wine glasses' stems so each guest could write their names on them and avoid the "where did I leave my wine?" dilema we all endure after embibing...

Una Noche Mexicana - celebrating Cinco de Mayo

A casual last-minute dinner with friends
Just a teaser for the delicious spread of Mexican delicacies to come...
Ready for some good old Margaritas!
The "tablecloth" is actually a picnic blanket.  I thought the vibrant colors went really well with the occasion.
Sombrero candles to – along with good food and friends – warm up the night!

Expecting Gabriel Baby Shower

Invitation made by my super-talented-designer-sister Katia
Some awesome friends of ours offered to host our baby shower at their place.  And even though I knew that I didn't have to worry about a thing, I still wanted to add a few personal touches to the party.  Thus, I started thinking about simple and fun ways to do so...
I got some blue plastic pacifiers but wasn't sure what to do with them. That's when I thought it would be fun to incorporate them into a "welcome drink" to be served to the guests upon their arrival :-) I washed them really well and then placed one at the bottom of each martini glass, before pouring the baby-boy-blue liquid. I don't remember all that went into the drink, but I do know that there was some Blue Curaçao involved. Before you panic, know that this mamma here had a baby-blue Gatorade instead... :-)
I absolutely love this cake topper!  "Oops!"
We asked our friends to bring an old picture of themselves as a child, or a picture of their children, so we could guess who is who... Not a formal game (I definitely didn't want to "stop" the party for that), we just hung the magnetic board on the wall and it became an interesting conversation piece.
As a keepsake (and wall art for the nursery), I framed a picture of our first baby's ultrasound and asked friends to leave him a message.
"Parents to Bee" jars of local honey as party favors
This was our second shower. We had another one at my parents' house in Brasil, surrounded by family and childhood friends. I had a surprise gift for Mr. B then: a "Daddy's Tools of The Trade" belt, where he could find everything he would "need" for a diaper change (plus a few items I added  for even more fun!)  It was hilarious to see people's reaction, especially his...

New Year's Eve/Révéillon 2006-2007

My go-to quick party appetizer: Chèvre, Fig Confit, Caramelized Onions and Almond Crumbs in Phylo Cups .
Mini Pissaladière.  Pissaladière is a tart made with a savory flaky dough and topped with black olives, sautéed onions and anchovies, a Niçoise specialty.
Very colorful, festive and tasty Thai Chicken Spoons

A mix of champagne glasses in different styles.  I refused to serve such a nice beverage in plastic flutes ;-)

We had carnaval/Mardi Gras masks, hats and tiaras for our guests to ring in the new year in style!!
The cutest party guest makes an appearance :-)
